One Week Till "Go Time"

One week from today I will FINALLY be starting to make my way to the beginning of the Camino de Santiago! Many months ago, when I started to even contemplate this trip, I was still in the "No, I can't possibly do that" phase. I made all sorts of excuses to myself . Then, I read something in a book written about the Camino that once you can't stop thinking about it, that is when you know you have to go. I was trying to think how many miles I have walked already in preparation. 6-7 days a week for a minimum of 10 miles (most have been 13-15 but some 19 to be ready for several very long days), some flat, some steep climbs, getting used to carrying a full pack (that first day was rough - I was sporting some nice cherry bombs on my hip bones!). So, I have already hiked approximately 2,000 miles to prepare. My Altra All-Weather Lone Peak trail shoes have been nothing short of AMAZING. I have always had Altra trail shoes, but I decided to try out the all weather version. WOW! Walking through wet tall grass my socks never got wet. Walking full days in the rain my socks were dry. Plus, they handle all the rough terrain I can throw at them, and I feel secure in my footing. I have a regular pair, two low all-weather pairs and another of the all-weather boot style. In the end I chose the low all-weather Lone Peaks as my favorite to hike in . . . . as you can tell! I have the second worn-in pair to take with me on the trail. And no, Altra is not my sponsor - I just love these shoes!
